A sacred art
From a Roman temple to a Byzantine church This site features the ruins of a roman temple that was converted into a Byzantine church in the 5th century AD.
Most of the church was decorated with mosaics with geometric shapes, animals and flowers. Many rooms surrounding this church were used as the living quarters of the priests and their assistants. During the 6th century an earthquake affected a large part of the church and the surrounding buildings. Remains of the church’s floor mosaics are still visible in the site.
